About Rebecca

Who is Rebecca and what is The Home Classroom?

Hi, I’m Rebecca — a home educator, history student, and the creator behind The Home Classroom.

I didn’t set out to build a resource hub. I set out to teach my own children the education I felt they deserved.

Like a lot of parents, I realised very quickly that so many “educational” resources either simplify history beyond recognition or completely rewrite it into something more comfortable. Stories get softened. Details get lost. And sometimes, the truth disappears altogether.

That didn’t sit right with me. The constant defunding and cutting of History subjects in the UK Education system is something I feel very passionate about. History is now becoming a subject that only the most prestigious institutions are teaching and there is less and less access to resources.

There are also many places that lock resources away from home educators. Recently a large company that claims to support home educators have changed some of their best lesson plans to now only being part of their school subscription service. Meaning parents like me no longer have access (even if we were halfway through the units *side-eye*). Frustrating!

So I started creating my own.

The Home Classroom grew from that — a place where learning is honest, engaging, and built on real understanding rather than memorisation. Everything you’ll find here comes from lived experience, not theory. I use these resources with my own children, adapting, testing, and refining them as we go.

My own educational background and qualifications lie in History, which means I have spent a lot of time digging into the details behind the stories we’re taught. That academic perspective feeds directly into what I create here — but this isn’t a classroom in the traditional sense. It’s a space where learning feels natural, curious, and connected to the real world.

You’ll find a mix of free resources, lesson ideas, and blog posts designed to support home educators and anyone who wants to teach in a more thoughtful way. From historical deep-dives to practical activities, everything is created with the same goal: helping children understand why things happened, not just what happened.

Because without that understanding, we’re not really learning — we’re just repeating.

If you’re here, chances are you care about how your children learn. So do I.

And that’s exactly why this exists.

Resources You Can Trust

I completely understand if you’re wondering why you should trust me with something as important as your child’s education — I would feel exactly the same.

When it comes to my own children, I’m careful, questioning, and I don’t take anything at face value. That same mindset is what shapes everything I create here. For transparency, here is a brief overview of some of my qualifications and certifications, so you can see the experience and study behind the resources I share.
