Free KS2 History Resources | Pocahontas Reality Check

Pocahontas is one of the most watched animations from the Disney Renaissance era, and she is often included in Disney Princess memorabilia. But her real story is very different from the one we watched as children.

As part of the Fairytale Reality Check series, this lesson plan aims to teach children the real history behind the story. Featuring a lesson plan, printable worksheets and more. Your lesson plan is designed to be clear, practical, and easy to follow, with a list of everything you need to prepare in advance, engaging activity ideas, and content thoughtfully broken down into manageable time segments.

This Fairytale Reality Check lesson plan includes;

  • A full, adaptable 60 minute lesson plan
  • Printable worksheets
  • Factsheets for both adults and children
  • Further resources, activities and ideas lists

This history resource is aimed at LKS2 aged children, however notes are made on the lesson plans for when you could add further information/context for older children.

Content Note: For your information, this lesson includes references to topics such as enslavement, child marriage, and colonisation. All content is presented in an educational, sensitive, and age-appropriate manner.

Why use The Home Classroom Resources

History is being dangerously defunded in our education systems, with many UK schools now massively downscaling the amount of hours taught or dropping the subject altogether. Without a solid education in what has come before, it is almost impossible to make better choices for the future.

We believe that every child should have access to real, unwashed history — without political, religious or curriculum biases. To support this, these resources will always remain free for home educators, teachers or anyone just wishing to expand their children’s history knowledge (or their own!).

If you enjoyed this resource, please feel free to share them with others. Together we can spread the access to free, unbiased education!
